25 weeks old

It is quite hard to believe how old he is now!!

The day trip to Glenfield was great fun for Theo. We had to meet him there and as we arrived first it was lovely to see how many members of staff there passed in to ask after us and Theo. He is a popular little boy. When he came round the corner on the stretcher, a tiny little face surrounded by equipment and wearing his snowman hat, his eyes looked so full of consternation! It didn't take him long to recognise Mum and Dad though and his gorgeous smile lit up the room.

The scans showed no change in myocardial function - his heart tissue hasn't improved. Dr Duke talked with us about how it means that he will still be referred to the transplant team at Great Ormond Street in due course and when that happens, the urgency/level of priority will be assessed by them. In the meantime, from a clinical point of view, he is doing well (but we all know that!) and his medications are being optimised. The go ahead to begin seriously weaning the levels of ventilation was given and we should be able to see quite rapidly how much he can manage.
Dr Pandya - consultant at the Royal was not deterred in his optimism for Theo and tried to persuade us not to be disappointed. I feel very sad that his heart hasn't recovered even the slightest bit - a transplant op would have been best avoided in my mind in spite of the information about success rates. I just wonder how much luck we can expect to have as a family.

Tabitha cleverly managed to avoid her operation by spiking a fever and vomiting fairly constantly on Sunday night. We had next to no sleep and the washer was going all night too - then at 5.30 i called the ward to tell them she was sick and they told us to come in anyway (for 7.30) as if the consultant deemed her too ill we would get a faster appointment than if we cancelled. On top of that, me and Colin are both ill. I am staying home with Tabby until we are both a lot better as we don't want to share our nasties with Theo but it means we don't get in to see him which is so sad.
