Wed 20th August

Last night Theo did not look so good - his breathing was laboured and he was very puffy, skin all dry and pasty. Blood samples are regularly taken to culture and a fungus has been found, basically a yeast infection in his blood which is causing a fever and upsetting his lungs on top of the generalised problems. However, this is being treated and when I spoke with one of his consultants this morning I was told that the initial results from the Levosemindan were promising but that the infection was masking any other effects and so as soon as the infection passes they will resume the administration of this medicine.
Also, he looks loads better again this morning. Less puffy, breathing regular and not nearly as rapid. Due to have a transfusion this morning which will no doubt improve his colour too. The alert Theo we photographed last week has gone into a sort of hibernation again as he is dealing with these new challenges but I hope we see some more of him soon.
There was a suggestion that he may need an operation to seal the pleural cavity if the chyle leakage does not improve as he cannot receive intravenous nutrition forever at this age but the consultant wants to see if the medicine really works first as surgery is also undesirable.

Hey Colin, Hey Willow,
I keep thinking of calling you, but I figure you've enough on. So inagine I called, then I get credit for calling and you don't have to explain everything to me over the phone, works perfectly. The updates on Theo are great. I hope the rest of you are doing ok. Must be very long days at the moment. Take care

Hi Willow and Colin,

We have read lots about what's happening and are sending loads of positive thoughts your way.

I (Howard) am working in our Paediatric Unit at the moment and I know that Theo's docs will be pulling out all the stops to help him.

Love,

Dear Willow and Colin,
I have just returned from holiday and heard the news about little Theo. It was such a shock. My thoughts are with you all. Please let me know if there is anything I can practically do to support. Tabitha and Sacha, I am thinking of you too. You must be so worried about your brother. Theo is such a beautiful baby. I wish him every ounce of strength to overcome all that he is going through. Having read the blog, I am just amazed what a fight he is putting up. Sending love and strength Ros Henshaw
